A Climate For Art (ACFA) is a campaign that I started with my friend Eliki Reade. We came together to create a project that tapped into our position as independent producers working across multiple arts organisations to create collective momentum and action for climate.
The campaign was built around a focus on financed emissions - banking and superannuation - gathering 24 arts organisations to pledge to divest from fossil fuel funding banks. When completed, it will mean keeping over $38 million dollars out of banks that fund fossil fuel projects.
Through our time and conversations around climate, we have come to see the root of the climate crisis as a cultural crisis, that therefore requires a cultural response. This has put our attention on growing critical climate dialogues and a community of practice. We are doing this through a series of participatory events - reading groups, symposiums and camps.
